rinigirid ti igid translates into the 'frayed edges or borders' in Ilocano.

They are inspired by antique piña textiles I found in the Philippines. The act of unfolding these fragile works was similar to unfolding a map of an intimate dwelling. It was a hope that the folding, creasing and disintegration channels a counter cartography, where the influence emotional experieces take hold rather than merely charting physical appearance.

The earlier black and white pieces were made after a short residency in the middle of the San Andreas Fault in California. The rocks I found in the dry river bed tell a story of much folding, and unimaginable friction. I wanted to convey, in textiles, the tumultuous conflicts as mirroring contemporary time.
